Band

Students select and are fitted for an instrument in 5th grade.  During this year, they learn how their instruments work, including notes and rhythm, playing technique, care and basic maintenance.  By the end of the beginning band year, they are fully prepared to enter advanced band. Beginning band participates in concerts and festivals throughout the year, including the city-wide Band Festival at Lutheran High North.

Our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students are members of our Advanced Band.  In addition to playing at OSL events, the advanced band performs stand tunes alongside Lutheran High North's marching band in Friday Night Lights.  They participate in the annual city-wide Band Festival, also held at LHN.  The band competes in off campus contests every year, and students have the option to participate individually in  honor band auditions and festivals.

In addition to the regular band classes, all band students take weekly small group lessons with Mr. Brumbaugh.  These lessons are held during the school day and last 20 minutes per lesson to give students more individualize attention and specific instruction.  Students will be out of class for their scheduled lesson time.  Their individual needs and schedules are considered when setting up times, but they are accountable for classroom work that is missed.
